Security best practices
Simple habits that, together with a VPN, keep you private online.
A VPN protects your connection. These habits protect everything around it.
On every device#
- Keep software updated. Updates for your operating system, browser and the Pivien app fix security issues.
- Use a password manager and a unique password for every account.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for email, banking and social accounts.
- Keep the kill switch on so a dropped connection never exposes your traffic.
In the browser#
- Prefer sites that use HTTPS; most browsers can warn you or upgrade connections automatically.
- Block third-party cookies and review site permissions such as location, camera and microphone.
- Remember that signing in to an account identifies you to that service, whatever your IP address.
On public Wi-Fi#
- Connect to Pivien before you open any apps or sites.
- Confirm the network name with staff; attackers sometimes create look-alike hotspots.
- Turn off automatic joining of open networks.
Phishing still works over a VPN
A VPN can't stop you from entering details into a fake site. Check the address bar before you sign in anywhere.Something unclear? Write to support@pivien.example
